DSLNG Receives Ministry of Environment Award for Maleo Conservation Efforts

DSLNG was again awarded for its participation in ex-situ and in-situ conservation of the maleo (Macrocephalon maleo) from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) of the Republic of Indonesia. This award was handed over directly by the Director General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Ir. Wiratno, M.Sc, and received by CSR Program Officer Popy Waytipo representing DSLNG management in Palu, Central Sulawesi, on Wednesday (15/9).

As the first company to carry out maleo conservation efforts outside their habitat (ex-situ), DSLNG conducts captive breeding and hatching this rare endemic bird of Sulawesi at the Maleo Conservation Center located in the DSLNG Plant area in Batui District, Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi. DSLNG is recorded as the first in history to successfully incubate a maleo bird of the filial 1 generation from the mating of maleo birds from its ex-situ captivity in 2019. So far, DSLNG has succeeded in releasing more than a hundred maleo chicks from conservation in the Bakiriang Wildlife Reserve.

This award is an appreciation for the umpteenth time for the contribution of DSLNG`s CSR program in the environmental field, which since the beginning of its presence has been concerned with the sustainability of one of the protected animals in Indonesia. Previously, DSLNG has received several awards for its maleo conservation efforts. Since its inauguration on June 5, 2013, the Maleo Conservation Center DSLNG facility has received several awards, including the first from the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP), the United Nations Agency in charge of the environment on the commemoration of World Environment Day 5 June 2013; then from the Environmental Management Agency of Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi; and from the CSR Award Silver category on November 28, 2014 for the category of community and environmental involvement and development.
